Tara relocated into the desk beside me and we instantly became a team that problem solved and navigated within our workgroup.
I feel a renewed energy build up inside me whenever we talk and she inspires me in taking the next steps to achieve my goals.
I am in awe at what this lady accomplishes! Not sure if she sleeps haha.
“You Belong Too” is a children’s book that will teach and start conversations about attitudes and life lessons for the younger ages.

Carolyn Grainger

Flower grower extraordinaire

A friend excitedly told me about a cute local flower shop that was offering a flower membership that provided a bouquet every Saturday for four Saturdays. I was in!! Something beautiful every week during covid….who wouldn’t welcome that!
She rolled up in her cute mint green truck and we had a fantastic conversation about her business, love of flowers and supporting women in their dreams. Instant friend!
I encourage you to look her up and she what she offers. Her bouquets are outstanding!

Linda Yolanda Kloosterhof

Photographer/ Author

Walking with my boys around fairy lake was a regular fun outing. Linda and her children had the same idea! We introduced ourselves and enjoyed the walk together,  chatting about life and our families.

Years later Linda agreed to take long overdue photos of our family and they turned out beautifully.  How she captures newborns is magical and I only wish this type of photography was done when my boys were tiny.  You must look into her website to see exactly what I mean!

She incorporated her children into her newly published childrens book “It’s the little things” with incredible illustrations!  A treasured keepsake for their family.

Lori

Hair Removal Expert

Lori and I met a few months ago in her shop.
She made me feel instantly comfortable and had me in stitches from her wicked sense of humour for the duration of my treatment.
She carries herself in a professional manner, is the best at what she does and someone I now call a friend.
I highly recommend her for all your hair removal needs!

Vision Boards

After reading “The Book of Yes” by Shonda Rimes and consciously saying yes in my life to new activities that made me step outside my box , I made my first vision board.

Where do I start?  Yikes!
I felt pressure build inside me for this to be perfect….”A” personality shining through!
I pushed that aside and asked myself some questions.
What do I want more of in my daily life?

What do I want less of in my life?
What do I want from my relationships?
Would I benefit from improvement in any areas? (absolutely)
How do I feel in this moment?  How do I want to feel?
What are my goals…short and long term?

Instantly pictures come to mind, and to be honest it was a little overwhelming, as much as it was exciting!
I wrote down my answers, then collected photos, quotes and visual inspiration that reflected each one of my goals.
I let go of making everything perfect and just went for it!  Trust me, that is difficult for me.  When I had everything collected I gave myself a timeline (strict timeline) to put them on my board….and viola……complete!

Celebrating serious intent to give focus to dreams and motivates to achieve goals!

I felt a huge smile come across my face as I stood back and looked at what was essentially my wish list for my ultimate life.

Rhubarb Extravaganza

As a child my parents had a huge garden and they planted everything to sustain their family of 4 throughout the winter months.

We grew potatoes, carrots, onions, beets, pears, tomatoes, squash, cabbage, currants, apples, raspberries, and cherries.

I remember a cold seller full of preserves.  As a 54 yr old, I now appreciate the efforts that went into sustaining a family of 6 and the work it entailed.

So when rhubarb season rolled around, I had this desire to create the most amazing  strawberry rhubarb pie.  How lucky am I to have a friend like Suzanne that is an incredible cook, religiously feeds me and was eager to help make this happen!

I am incredibly grateful for the beautiful food, introducing me to everything having to do with the kitchen. She tells me my knife skills are sketchy lol.

Apparently she is making me a birthday cake~I can hardly wait to see what she comes up with!

We spent a rainy afternoon making stewed rhubarb, rhubarb muffins as well.  The results were delicious!

Thank you Suzanne xo

Journal adventure

An incredible opportunity presented itself to my father and I during his first lockdown in a retirement home. No in person visits for this 96 year old for weeks.
I took out a journal and started asking him questions about his life…..starting from his childhood and wrote everything down. I learned about his generation, what his holidays looked like, family, friends and how he lived his life.
I asked him if he had any pets growing up.
He replied,
“oh yes, many, and we ate them all!”
I instantly laughed and asked him to explain.
He clarified by adding his family had chickens and rabbits. Whew! I was concerned for a couple of minutes haha.
I found out that he never had a birthday party growing up since his birthday fell during lent. NEVER
As surprising as that was to find out, I was just as surprised to not hear a complaint from him.
It makes me smile thinking about that time we spent together chatting on the phone and how I felt closer to him.
It was amazing and he talked on and on and relived many wonderful memories.

Thrifting / Recycling

Anyone that knows me knows that I love to go thrifting for myself and others. I often get asked to keep an eye out for certain items! I am happy to do it! I love the dig involved in thrifting and have been told I can find the diamond in the rough.
A friend was furnishing a small cottage and I got busy thrifting to make it a cozy space. I was thrilled with my finds and so was my friend Danielle. Win – Win.
I have this relationship with many of my friends and I love it. We all have special talents. We embrace those talents and share as needed. Reminds me of the barter system from years gone by. Why tackle something you dislike doing if you can negotiate with friends!
I make Christmas urns for Suzanne……I previously mentioned her…..fantastic cook. She likes to have beautiful urns in front of her house at Christmas time but doesn’t enjoy doing them. Turns out I LOVE doing that, so she and I do baking together and her place looks festive!
I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Care to Share

Two years ago I made valentine’s for the staff and residents where our dad resides. The response was wonderful and I vowed to continue this every year! It is a reality for many residents that they do not have regular visitors or receive happy mail, only bills. Seeing first hand those that receive cards from family is heart warming. Eagerly sharing photos and notes to their friends at their table.
Last year my great nephews and sister got together. Lots of laughs and fun was had creating and signing valentines for the retirement home and the local nursing home. My eldest great nephew wrote a sweet note to go with them saying he hoped that these brought a smile to everyone. Kind souls 🙂
The boys made many for their neighbourhood and gladly dropped them in mailboxes and had fun doing that together with their family. WIN WIN
I don’t know about you, but getting these kinds of surprises makes me smile and brightens my day!

This year my goal is to include another nursing home.
I feel now more than ever these kind of gestures are important. With the isolation, frustration and division many are feeling, reaching out to others is something easily achieved.
Will you join in on the “Care to Share” valentine project and drop off valentines in your community? I’d love to hear from you!
So far I have made 100….time to get busy!

2023

Over 270 valentine’s made this year with family and friends.  Road trip to deliver to 6 different locations and met some sweet people along the way! An older gentleman I met that day said with a big smile that that was the first valentine he had received in years……that’s a win and why I will continue to do this for years to come!
